To the humility comment, I once read a prison chaplain describing the difference between someone who sees their past crimes/harms as being done by a different person versus someone who understands and integrates that past self into who they are and how they show up in the world now. I've tried to take a more integrative approach ever since, and I think it's helping me in discernment.
